AUCS/TR9114 The Implementation of an Interface to Metadata in P/FDM

چکیده
A convenient and uniform interface to metadata is an important facility for any database system, not only from the point of view of the user or system manager but also for the application developer writing front-ends and query optimisers etc. If this interface can take the same form as that to the ordinary data, so much the better. This report describes an implementation of just such an interface to the metadata of P/FDM databases. Several new access primitives are provided that operate on the internal descriptors and allow the user to query metadata as if it were stored in an ordinary Daplex module.
